Note To Self

Despite the fact that it was filmed recently here in Austin, that it is a tremendously compelling story and even despite the fact that I can fast forward the commercials thanks to DVR... I should NOT EVER watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition in a pregnant, hormonal state.

I'm about to run out of tissue and it isn't pretty.

Pregnancy Doesn't Suck

I'm a huge and longtime fan of Maggie Mason - a.k.a Mighty Girl. Things have gotten especially interesting on her site lately since she is due with her first baby literally any day. A while back she started a series called "Pregnancy Doesn't Suck", random and infrequent posts chronicling the sometimes mundane but kinda cool things about being pregnant.

I'm thinking I should start my own list. Beginning tonight.

I was on my way to Adrienne's for Grammy Night (Go Dixie Chicks!!) and picked up an order from Pizza Hut. I asked the girl behind the counter if she needed the coupon I called in with the order and was met with a response from an older manager-type woman. She promptly informed the cashier that "it's free" and both the girl and I stood there sort of confused. The woman looked at me and then asked me if I knew why it was free.

Me: (total wild guess) Because I'm pregnant!?

Woman: Yep - I always believe that a pregnant woman should want for nothing!

Well how about that.

Progress

Too bad they haven't come up with a virtual reality tool that would actually let you experience what this feels like. Just imagine your skin stretched to its limit - almost to the point of itchy-painful, then realizing you have nine more weeks to go, which coincidentally, are the weeks where baby grows exponentially as do the lbs.

I do fear this child will be bigger than Karl at birth...and permanently alter my anatomy in the process.

Obstinate. Already.

For some reason, Jr. likes to hang out on my left side. It causes excruciating pain under my left shoulder blade from bearing all that weight on one side. It usually comes and goes but now we're about at the 24 hour mark here. I've resorted to finding empty conference rooms more than once today so I can lie down on my RIGHT side and literally push the little bugger over with my hand.

I just completed my third attempt - where I was met with firm resistance. Not only did Jr. NOT move over, he/she moved even further to left.

Ten more weeks to go.

Oh Yeah. That.

Before we go much further, probably something I should get out of the way and mention:

But aside from that, nothing much going on. Unless of course you count the planning/hosting of the shindig in California for my parent's 50th in September, including the slideshow movie of 50 years worth of Ochs memories that Almost. Killed. Me. And that teeny little jaunt to Provence, France for two weeks in October. Did I mention the stomach bug from hell immediately after? All while trying to work full time, chase after a 40 lb toddler and not puke on my shoes (or fall asleep at traffic lights). Something had to give and blogging just didn't make the short list.

But oh how I missed it.

I'm not much for resolutions ("Aim low" is my motto!) but I am trying to go a full year without falling off the wagon this time. I may eat my words when Baby2 arrives mid-April and the posts may start to become incoherent, but I. Will. Post.
